Tourist Board to Employ New Marketing Strategies for Jazz 2002 |
Tuesday, January 15, 2002 - Several new marketing strategies are to be employed to attract visitors to the 2002 St. Lucia Jazz Festival, in light of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. The St. Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB), who is the main organiser for the event, says St. Lucians can anticipate a stellar line-up when the event comes around in the next three months. SLTB’s Marketing Manager Tracy Warner-Arnold indicated, “For Jazz we will be doing some extra promotion for the festival’. She told reporters that “the European and persons from the UK are still travelling heavily and so we’re going to be doing a lot more work in those markets. We’re also going to do some press launches in the US as well, namely New York and Chicago to revive interest in St. Lucia Jazz in the minds of Americans.” With a sizable chunk of patrons to the festival are coming from neighbouring Caribbean countries, the Board also intends to intensify its marketing and promotional activities in these islands. “We will definitely be doing a lot of Caribbean promotions. Usually a large portion of the jazz patrons come from the Caribbean and so we will be pressing that in order to tap into the Caribbean market to help our arrivals and further patronise the festival this year,” said Warner-Arnold. She says the line-up which will be announced at next week’s launching of the festival will reflect a strong jazz assemble as well as some of the alternative acts that have become popular to patrons. Warner-Arnold notes that the intention is not to surpass the record of previous years but to allow the Jazz Festival to feature some of the best artistes in the world, while maintain consistency and quality, ensuring that patrons get value for money. More on the May 3-12 event will be disclosed, when the 2002 Jazz Festival is launched here on Monday, January 21, 2002. related Tourist Board to Launch 2002 Jazz Line-Up Next Week
