Windward and Leeward Brewery Launches "PITON SHANDY"

August 14, 1997 - Windward and Leeward Brewery has launched a new beverage - "PITON SHANDY".  The drink comes in two flavors - ginger and lemon - and is made from the same ingredients of Piton Beer -water, yeast, malt and fine hops. The production process takes one day.

At the launching ceremony on Friday August 8, 1997, the Brewery Manager Hein Van Dort explained that the production process of the Shandy is the making up of a syrup solution of white granulated sugar, a flavor compound, beer and is mixed properly to ensure that it is carbonated to the required carbon dioxide content.

Mr. Dort stated that the only difference between the two drinks is the flavor and that the slight difference in colour is not production mistake.
The beverage has a 1.2% volume of alcohol and is targeted at a young audience.

According to the distribution manager Hilary Darcheville, reliable sales information through their computerised system has enabled them to estimate a sale of 30,000 thousand cartoons of Piton Shandy a year on the local market.

The company has already projected a sale of six thousand cartoons of Piton Shandy for the year 1997 on the local market and plans to export the beverage to Barbados, Antigua, St. Vincent and Dominica and other overseas markets later this year are being implemented.
