November 3, 1997 -
Selling the island to potential US visitors is expected to become a little easier, as over
90 travel agents rapped up a three day familiarization visit to St. Lucia on the weekend.
The US based agents were on the island courtesy Air Jamaica and got the opportunity to
inspect properties all over the island.
The tourism minister hon. Philip J. Pierre, charged the travel agents with a specific
task.
Amidst the trying times facing the volatile tourism industry in the wake of the tragic
sandals boating accident, it was an astute tourism minister who welcomed over 90 travel
agents from the island's largest tourism market - the United States - to experience the
unique St. Lucian vacation ... First hand.
And although the travel agents will remain on the island for just 3 days, it is hoped that
during that time the notion of turf wars and bombings racking the industry, as forecast in
the international press, would be dispelled.
And there's dire need to change that message according to the Tourism Minister. From an
industry racked cut-throat competition, to more accurate picture, of an island paradise
offering variety in accommodation, untamed scenic beauty and some of the most hospitable
people, this side of the hemisphere.
