July 14, 1997 - St. Lucia's jazz festival has been described as number one in the Caribbean. This was reiterated by President of Alken tours, Patricia Lawrence. Alken tours is the largest owned black operated agency in the United States and is also the official tour operator for the St. Lucia Jazz Festival. Miss. Lawrence was at the time part of a US tour operators delegation meeting with St. Lucia's prime minister Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Phillip J. Pierre, other tourism officials and a delegation from the Government Information Service.


Miss. Lawrence commended Prime Minister Anthony for his foresight and keen interest in the operations of tour operators.
