R.O.C. Donates to UWI School of Continuing Studies |
by Lucius Doxerie August 2, 1997 - The University of the West Indies School of continuing Studies, is a recipient of financial assistance from the Republic of China. Resident Tutor of the UWI School of Continuing Studies, Mr. Matthew Roberts, speaking to media personnel, explained that a much needed process of expansion to create more space so as to offer more programmes particularly at the local level was urgently needed. Some of the programmes offered by the UWI School of Continuing studies are: the Administrative Professional Secretaries Programme; Language and Communication Programme; offered to public employees in St. Lucia and the Communication Arts Programme offered to local journalists. With the task of offering so many programmes to locals, the university soon ran out of space and found it necessary to seek assistance, to furnish an additional classroom, built strictly with local university funds. A call for financial help was answered by the Republic of China, in the person of the Charge d'Affaire, Hu Fu Chung. In presenting the cheque, valued at $15,000 Eastern Caribbean Dollars, the representative from the ROC, emphasized, that the total was insignificant, but that his Government was pleased to be associated with such a project especially as it seeks to improve the delivery of education. |
