Privatisation of NCB

August 2, 1997 - Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony, has written to the new Chairman of the National Commercial Bank of St. Lucia, inviting him to submit proposals to the Cabinet of Ministers, relative the privatization of the Bank.

According to the Prime Minister, when the St. Lucia Labour Party first conceptualized the National Commercial Bank, it had always been the intention that the Bank would be privatized, to allow the people of St. Lucia to own shares.

This is a new opportunity for the private sector and Prime Minister Anthony hopes that this step would signal the government's firm commitment to embrace the said private sector, in the economic life of our country.
