September 16, 1997 - Development in the south is moving at an increasingly high rate with a just opened
fertilizer plant and a now Gable Woods shopping mall in Vieux Fort.
Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort South, Hon. Dr. Kenny
Anthony, speaking during the opening ceremony of the shopping mall reiterated the need for
positive development in the south and said that he is behind the fruition of such move.
Dr. Anthony assured management of his support whenever needed.
The Prime Minister stated that the south must not limit its development to St. Lucia only
but should extend to the entire Caribbean region.
Dr. Anthony expressed his joy in the direction the south has begun to take and said that
in many ways the arrival of the shopping mall has contributed the beginning of that
development. He went on to reminded his constituents of the pride they need to take in
themselves if they are to aspire and increase productivity.
The new shopping mall is expected to assist in curbing unemployment in the south and has
already provided employment for eighty persons.
