September 8, 1997 - Effective September 22, 1997 citizens of St. Lucia will no longer be required to pay for medical attention at health centres across the island. In a statement issued by the health minister Hon. Sarah Flood on Monday September 1, 1997, the Minister told the nation that the decision was in keeping with their policy of 'health for all'.

Meanwhile the Minister has cautioned that fees will remain payable for services such as prescriptions, lab exams and other such services offered at the health centre. Please note too that the abolishment of these fees does not apply to services sought at the hospitals.
