November 17, 1997 - When the Minister of Education Hon. Mario Michel teamed up with the Parliamentary
Representative for Castries South-East, Hon. Menissa Rambally, the objective was to kill
more than two birds with one stone. The tour of duty took the ministers to five schools in
the Castries south-east area.
The fact finding mission sought to determine, first hand, problems encountered by
stakeholders and play makers of these schools and to chart a course of action to alleviate
if not eliminate the said difficulties.
Whilst the myriad of problems spelt out by persons affected will not be addressed in one
swipe of some magic wand, important information will, nonetheless be gathered.
The recurring problems encountered by most schools stem from a lack of adequate toilet
facilities, a dire need for playing fields and separated classrooms, scarcity of classroom
furniture and the fencing of school property. The schools visited were Odsan Combined,
Bexon Infant and Bexon Primary, Ti-Rocher Combined and the Forestierre Methodist School.
