September 16, 1997 - Following a meeting between a government team headed by Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony and officials of Cable and Wireless (West Indies) Ltd., the telecommunications company has agreed to government's request, to increase its payment of royalties under the terms of its International Telecommunications License, from three percent to ten per cent.

To this end, on Tuesday 9th September, 1997, Manager of Cable & Wireless' local operations, Mr. David Morgan, presented a cheque to the government of Saint Lucia. The payment represented the seven percent increase and covers the period due.

Prime Minister Anthony, in expressing pleasure at the outcome of the negotiations, which settled this long outstanding matter, commended the Cable & Wireless officials for the openness and cooperation they displayed during the meeting. According to Dr. Anthony, the company's willingness to accommodate the government's views augurs well for the future, and he looks forward to a continued mutually rewarding relationship.
