Post Office Reform

August 6, 1997 -
Quick economical and customer oriented postal service could soon be the watch of the day at the island’s general post office, that is, if recommendations from a recent consultancy are implemented.

A comprehensive re-modeling along with modernizing of the island’s general post office, would top the list of recommendations coming out of a week long international consultancy, looking into the effectiveness of the island postal service.

The exercise was carried out by Enrick Henkel of the Germany based Universal Postal Union (UPU).

According to Mr. Henkel, the modernization phase, which would follow the re-modeling phase, would not involve mechanization, as the volume of mail and packages shipped on the island, does not warrant the costly exercise.

The aim of the entire exercise he says, is to provide quick, economical and customer oriented postal services.
