Thursday, September 1, 2011 Six Saint Lucians left the island on Sunday, headed for Canada to pursue a better future for themselves and their families.
The Vermax Group of Companies, located in Canada, is collaborating with the Ministry of Labour in its recruitment drive to provide employment for Saint Lucians within the operations of Vermax in Canada.
Cynthia Francois of the Ministry of Labour says the 6 gentlemen underwent both written and practical testing before being selected. A trailer truck was hired for the testing, and the check point was from the Rendezvous Hotel to the Castries wharf, where we got permission from SLASPA for the applicants to manoeuvre the large goods vehicles, Francois said.
Francois urged Saint Lucians who are interested in travelling abroad to work, to become Ambassadors by maintaining good conduct and work ethic, to ensure the sustainability of the recruitment programme in providing opportunities for more people.
The president of the Vermax Group of companies has assured that if those 6 drivers excel during their contract, he is ready to expand the opportunity for more Saint Lucians. Additionally, he is currently seeking other types of vacancies in Canada where he can recruit Saint Lucians to fill these posts.
The six employees have received a one year contract with Gordon Food Service, where they will be delivering food items to well established restaurant chains in Canada via large good vehicles.
For the year thus far, Francois says, the Vermax Group of Companies has successfully recruited fifteen persons through the efforts of the Ministry of Labour. |
