Wednesday, September 21, 2011 – Saint Lucia has received much commendation for the level of work which has been accomplished in implementing and advancing the Caribbean Single Market and Economy – CSME’s agenda.
Programme Manager of the Barbados based CSME Unit, Ivor Caryl, says Saint Lucia has given a very good account of itself where CSME compliance is concerned.
“Saint Lucia has been one of those countries which has done some of the more important things albeit there are one or two gaps. “We are undertaking a very vigorous analysis of some of the things that must be done in the area of the single market and Saint Lucia has taken the fundamental action that would allow most of it to work effectively.”
The CSME officials who also met with the Saint Lucia Coalition of Services during their visit earlier this week said Saint Lucia ranks low in the area of services.
“The difficulty we have
found in all cases including Saint Lucia is the area of services where the
ranking there is lowest—under 50% for most countries regarding the operations of
the regime at the level of movement of services. So there are some things to be
done there if we want to get that right.”
Saint Lucia ranked first in a study to determine how the LDC's and Belize can integrate to benefit from the CSME. |
