Monday 26 September 2011 – The top students at this year’s Common Entrance exams from the Babboneau constituency are now better equipped to pursue their educational dreams—thanks to the Parliamentary Representative, Honourable Ezekiel Joseph.
The students were rewarded for their excellence with new laptop computers during a recent ceremony held under the theme “Assisting Students to meet the global Challenges of the 21st Century”.
The MP says he will continue providing such support to successful students in the Babonneau constituency.
“The reality is that a computer is a necessity. Since the world has now changed, you can have all the CXCs, GCEs or other qualifications, but once you are not computer literate, you are not ready to compete in the world. So we need to expose you and give you the necessary skills to become computer literate.”
The gesture has also been welcomed by the Minster for Education Honourable Arsene James, who says it is a significant investment in the development of the country’s youth.
Minister James says such initiatives also form part of his ministry’s policy.
“The Ministry of Education is always pleased to know that such activities are taking place within the various communities. At the ministry we also have an awards ceremony annually which is called the “Awards of Excellence” where we award successful students, teachers, and schools. I think it is very good that the district representative has seen it necessary to award students from Babonneau who have performed excellently at exams.”
The Balata Primary school was also awarded the “Most Outstanding School” in the Babonneau district.
The programme which began in 2010 is now an annual event on the community’s calendar.
