Thursday, Sept 22, 2011 – Private /Public sector partnership has once again borne fruit in the education sector of Saint Lucia.
The Corinth Secondary School on Wednesday September 21 was the recipient of a newly outfitted computer lab through its partnership with the Saint Lucia Electricity Services (LUCELEC) that made the $30,000.00 investment at the school.
Well known for excellent results in the information technology department, IT teacher Albertha Gaillard noted the invaluable worth students will realise in using the new equipment.
“We are indeed grateful that our students will be given an opportunity to work individually at a computer, to sit at a computer and to get the much needed hands-on experience they deserve to become computer efficient. With these resources we are going to try our best to maintain our pass rate of a hundred percent in Information technology and EDPM.”
Financial Comptroller of LUCELEC Earl Estrado said the company sees the gesture not as a donation to the school, but as an investment in the human development of Saint Lucia.
“LUCELEC received a request from the Corinth Secondary School in January to assist the school in re-equipping its IT lab, which has seen its stock of functioning computers dwindle from 20 to 7. The implications of this are fairly obvious, especially with students requiring to complete their School Based Assessments (SBA's) and preparing to take the CXC Practical Exams in May.”
In outfitting the school's IT department, LUCELEC also utilized systems which will result in lower maintenance and electricity costs. |
