Friday, September 02, 2011 – As the new academic year begins today, education officials have taken a final review and examination on the state of readiness of schools island-wide.   The meeting also reviewed the objectives and strategic focus for the academic year.

Reports submitted by all Education officers “all schools” will be opened today as scheduled.   One of the major decisions taken at that meeting was the finalisation of comprehensive schedules to support schools by various teams from the Ministry of Education.

Regarding the La Guerre Combined School, the education officials spoke on plans for a new 2.8 million dollar building.  It was explained that because of the inclement weather that Saint Lucia is experiencing and the termite infected structure, the relocation exercise of the old building could not be completed within the seven week summer vacation.

Education officials with the support of the principals, teachers and parents have initiated alternative arrangements to ensure that students of La Guerre are not disadvantaged.

Those students will be accommodated at the Babonneau Primary School until the relocation works are completed.   The Ministry of Education has arranged transportation to and from the Babonneau Primary all for students of the La Guerre Combined School.  This of course will come at no cost to parents.

The meeting noted that while five of the 105 schools were experiencing minor deficiencies, the overall state of readiness was an effort by all stakeholders and they must be commended.

One of the major decisions taken at the meeting was the finalisation of comprehensive schedules to support various schools by visiting teams from the Ministry of Education.
