Tuesday 22 November 2011 – Saint Lucia’s tourism product will be further enhanced with the announcement of a new hotel to be constructed on the north-eastern side of the country—Marquis Estate to be precise.
The Harlequinn Hotel Project is in keeping with government’s polices of attracting new hotel plants in areas other than the traditional locations such as Rodney Bay and Soufriere.
Minister for Agriculture, Honourable Ezekiel Joseph, who is also the parliamentary representative for Babbonneau, described the project’s location as one that presents a golden opportunity to strengthen the linkages between tourism and agriculture.
“It can provide great opportunities for persons in Saint Lucia with regards to employment, as well as the spill-off effects that will be manifest in social programmes that the company has agreed to participate in.”
Minister Joseph said the hotel investors have vouched to become active partners in the development of the community. To this end, Harlequinn has given a commitment to assist in the development of a sporting facility for the area.
“Based on discussions with investors of the Harlequinn Hotel, they have agreed to construct a playing field. It is my responsibility to identify where they can construct the field. “I have engaged the youth in Boguis to give some ideas as to where they would like to see this infrastructure developed; I am waiting for them to give me some feedback.”
Minister Joseph said the government of Saint Lucia is satisfied that Harlequin Hotels and Resorts will provide accommodation built and furnished to the highest standards. |
