French speaking territories seek close integration |
Monday, November 28, 2011 – The closer integration of French Caribbean Departments with non-French speaking countries and territories in the region is the focus of a conference in Guadeloupe this week.
The French Departments of the Americas or Forum or FDA conference is slated for November 30 to December 2.
The forum seeks to enhance greater regional integration of the French Departments with the wider Caribbean region.
The French Departments of the Americas include French Guyana, Guadeloupe and Martinique, while St. Barthélemy and St. Martin are considered territories.
The FDA delegates will also look to position the French West Indies as the "Mediterranean of the Americas".
Delegates will aim to position the French Caribbean as a center for training, professional development, employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Numerous academics and professional experts from France, the French West Indies, Barbados, Cuba, Jamaica, and Mexico, will be participating in the three-day conference.
Upon conclusion the participants are expected to return to their individual country’s to advance the closer integration of French Caribbean Departments with non-French speaking countries and territories in the region
It is expected that all interest will benefit from the integration process particularly in the areas of trade, research and development, ecological development, as well as artistic and cultural development.
Saint Lucia has maintained very cordial relations with the French Caribbean Departments for many years. |
