Tuesday 10 May 2011  Young Saint Lucian women below the age of 35 now have the opportunity to further their studies in the field of Science—thanks to the 2012 UNESCO-L'OREAL International Fellowships. Secretary General of the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO, Marcia Symphorien, appeals to women to make use of the opportunity.

“The prizes are awarded annually to three women from each of the five regions of the world. The prize is in the sum of  $US20 thousand to assist persons who selected to basically pursue the research studies in the field they would have chosen.

“The fellowship programme is really intended to promote the contribution of young women in various fields of  science.  The idea really is  to help to build capacity and more particularly to promote the contribution of women to the development of science and technology.  The scholarship is tenable at any university of your choice, the only limitation is that one cannot study  in their own country.

The deadline for the return of completed application forms  is on or before June 15th 2011.  More information can be obtained from the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO, 2nd Floor Francis Compton Building, the Waterfront Castries or telephone 468– 5272/3
