Relations between Saint Lucia and Switzerland expected to strengthen |

Friday 20 May 2011 – Diplomatic relations between Saint Lucia and Switzerland will be strengthened with the appointment of His Excellency Markus-Alexander Antoinetti as Switzerland’s new Ambassador to the island.
Saint Lucia has benefited from several multilateral arrangements from the Switzerland Agency for Development and Corporation since the two countries became diplomatic allies in 2005.
In presenting his credentials to Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, the new Swiss diplomat expressed his government’s commitment to working with Saint Lucia in areas of mutual interest.
“My country Switzerland, cherishes the friendly relationship between our two countries and we are looking forward to working with the government of Saint Lucia to advance our mutually beneficial cooperation to new levels in bilateral and multilateral issues.”
In welcoming the new Ambassador, Saint Lucia’s Head of State also reaffirmed government’s commitment to its diplomatic relations with Switzerland.
Dame Pearlette also recognised Switzerland’s role in emergency aid and disaster relief, environmental security, and lobbying on behalf of vulnerable developing countries on the issue of climate change.
“I take this opportunity to place on record Saint Lucia’s appreciation of the peaceful role that Switzerland plays in international affairs and in many international organisations which has helped in the promotion of peace, stability, and security worldwide. The guiding pillars of your foreign policy are indeed the very best foundation on which we can strengthen the very friendly relations that already exist between our two countries.”
Dame Pearlette also told the Swiss diplomat that the government and People of Saint Lucia stand ready to support him in the execution of his ambassadorial duties.
