Tuesday 3 May 2011 – Incessant rains interrupted the delivery of normal services at the Soufriere Hospital over the weekend. From Friday the 29th of April, the hospital services were temporarily moved to the Environmental Health Offices opposite Sandra's Boutique. The rains created access problems to the health facility amongst other issues. Acting Director Bureau of Health Promotion, Ministry of Health, Natasha Lloyd Felix in updating the GIS on the situation says the compound was flooded as a result of the rains that were experienced during the course of last week.
“We also had a temporary break in the water supply at the hospital, so to facilitate the proper care and management of patients this decision had to have been taken. Effective Monday the 2nd of May the services were re-established at the Soufriere Hospital; so all care of patients including emergency care is currently being facilitated at the Soufriere Hospital as per usual.
“We want to thank all persons who demonstrated support, who understood the constraints we were working under and were able to demonstrate some flexibility with the change we had to put into place.”
The road allowing access to the hospital which also suffered some damage due to the heavy rains has been partially repaired by the Ministry of Communications and Works.
Weather permitting the drainage system will also receive attention shortly. |
