May 3, 2011 - Maxillofacial services will be available at Victoria Hospital from May 2011.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Barnabus Annius says all registrants will be evaluated and contacted for follow up by a maxillofacial specialist.

Persons with cleft palette, split lips and other facial deformities, who are desirous of medical attention are encouraged to register at the nearest health centre.

This will allow the ministry to ascertain the number and severity of cases. The information collected will then be used to choose the best course of action with the given circumstances.

Many persons suffering with facial deformities, Mr. Annius says, stay away from interacting with the general population.

The permanent secretary is making a special plea to those persons to come forward and take advantage of the help being offered to them.
