Monday 23 May 2011  Saint Lucia has received over 40 thousand Euros from the French government towards the island’s post Hurricane Tomas Recovery efforts.  This time the Saint Lucia Red Cross Society and the Bexon Primary School will benefit.

“Friday last week the General Consul of French Guyana voted to donate another 50 thousands Euros to Saint Lucia,” Consul Général of the French Departments (de Saint Lucie Départments Fran~ais d'Amérique)  Keats Compton said.

“Ten thousands Euros of that goes to the Saint Lucia Red Cross for their un-going operations and Forty thousand Euros has been allocated to the rehabilitation of the Bexon School which as everybody knows was cut off  and was in a lot of distress following the passage of Hurricane Tomas.  I want to state that this is something which is in addition to grants already approved by all of the three departments.”

Immediately following the passage of Hurricane Tomas the French territories of Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guyana better known as Cayenne pledged 80 thousands Euros each to the island.   The pledge of 240 thousands euros have already been transferred to Saint Lucia.

Compton says the latest donation demonstrates the special relationship Saint Lucia shares with the French dependent territories, in particular, French Guyana.
