Thursday 19 May 2011  The beauty, colour, and splendor of Saint Lucia carnival will take centre stage at the National Cultural Centre this Sunday May 22, when seventeen ladies  compete for a final spot in this year’s National Carnival Queen Show.

The preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 2PM

Executive Director of the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), Mr Kennedy “Boots” Samuel explains that the qualifiers are being staged due to the high level of interest expressed in the National Carnival Queen Show this year.

“There are a number of applications from all over the country for participation in the queen show so on Sunday they will be a preliminary run-off at the Cultural Centre. The response has been so good and we have seen a lot of potential in it so we will do it in a big way and try to lift the standard of the run-off because last year we did it as a simple audition but this year there will be cat walks and actually preliminary parade in special wear, swim suits, formal wear etc.

“The carnival queen show committee has planned this special show to give the nation a sneak preview into what can be expected this year.”

In addition to preliminaries, the winners of the individual community carnival queen shows will gain automatic qualification to the national event.

The National Carnival Queen Show will take place on Saturday July 9, at the National Cultural Centre.

Being crowned carnival queen is one of the most coveted prizes on the annual calendar for Saint Lucia carnival.
