Tuesday 17 May 2011 – Following an assessment of the island's infrastructure by Prime Minister Hon. Stephenson King and other government officials last week, Minister for Communications, Works, Transport, and Public Utilities, Honourable Guy Joseph, in an exclusive interview with the GIS, gave an update on the bridges which are presently under reconstruction. The minister also spoke on recent awarded contracts in the north of the island.
“Presently we have taken on a number of reconstruction efforts in terms of bridges and river crossings throughout the island; some of them are already in use for example in the Ti Roche area. I think the other area of major concern is the Bois d'orange bridge – we have issued a contract for the by-pass road and once the by-pass road is completed then we are going to construct a proper bridge in the Bois d'orange area.”
According to Joseph, while the process may inconvenience members of the public, his ministry will take every precaution to enable the completion of the by-pass in the shortest possible time, without compromising the integrity of the structure.
“We hope to get the by-pass not necessarily fully completed, but within 4 to 6 weeks we should be able to use that by-pass in the event we have any problems up in the northern area.”
The public is asked to exercise both patience and caution during the period of construction of the by-pass in the Bois d'orange area. |
