Monday 14 March 2011 – Over twenty public servants began training in human resource development and evaluation techniques this week. The workshop organized by the Ministry of the Public Service and managed by the Royal Institute of Public Administration, has as its focus improving efficiency within the public service.
“As we invest more money into training our public officers, it is important that the training significantly contributes to improving the performance of the public officer and by extension, the agency. “We need to ensure, that our training programmes are cost-effective, and relevant in meeting the organization's needs. It is often said change is constant; if our staff are to keep pace with these changes, there is a need for effective learning, training, development and evaluation,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Public Service is Philip Dalsou.
The programme is another example of government’s commitment to ensuring that civil servants at all levels receive appropriate training resulting in a more effective public service.
“This year, the number of public officers trained increased by over 100% when compared to the same period last year, Minister for Social Transformation, Leonard Montoute said. “This programme is particularly important because we recognize that with training and development programmes, employees' performance improves significantly. Funding for these types of programmes is a priority for the ministry because, without training and development, government agencies would not be able to fully maximize their human capital potential.”
The workshop will focus on managing trainers, training and individual learning, needs analysis, and evaluation and return on investment. |
