Monday 14 March 2011 – Consumers Worldwide stand in solidarity today as the observance of Consumer Rights Day is marked.
In her official statement on this occasion Minister for Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Senator, the Honourable Tessa Mangal has highlighted the importance of instilling confidence in the world's largest economic group.
“The market system cannot function properly without consumers. The generation of wealth in any country hinges on the ability and capacity of consumers to buy. Therefore, in the development of the market system, consumer issues and concerns should be accorded a great level of prominence.”
The minister emphasized that consumer issues and concerns should be accorded a great level of prominence noting the significance of business facilitation as well.
“As a ministry responsible for business facilitation on the one hand, and consumer protection on the other, we are obligated to initiate the right policy mix. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the business community, as the engine of growth can thrive and consumers, as the fuel needed for the engine to work are given the level of protection they deserve.”
The theme for this year's observance is “Consumers for Fair Financial Services” attract much discourse on matter of regulation and monitoring within that sector. |
