Wednesday, June 15, 2011 – Prime Minister Stephenson King will host a special cocktail reception at the Official Residence in honour of founder of “Search for a Star – Saint Lucia” sports initiative Les Ferdinand on Thursday evening June 16th, 2011.
The new sports initiative is geared at identifying two young Saint Lucian footballers who would get the opportunity to showcase their talent to coaches at the internationally renowned Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club in the United Kingdom.
The initiative which got off the ground earlier this month is endorsed by Prime Minister King. The Prime Minister pledged his Government’s support for the programme during a recent meeting with Mr. Ferdinand and colleagues whilst in the UK to attend the Royal Wedding in April of this year.
During that meeting Prime Minster King expressed his appreciation that Les Ferdinand and his associates were investing in the potential talents of Saint Lucian youth. The Prime Minister then expressed the view that the initiative would provide an opportunity for a “once in a lifetime” exposure for young Saint Lucian talent.
Tuesday evening’s activity at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence will begin at 7:00 pm. Members of the sports media are invited to attend and cover this activity.
Les Ferdinand is born of Saint Lucian parentage and is a former England International. He played for the UK seventeen (17) times during his career. Other members of the project team are Leslie Fevrier a successful football scout and Chris Ramsey, one of the World’s highest ranking coaches. |
