Thursday 13 January 2011 – The official launch of the UNESCO funded Mathematics project which includes the use of special software aimed at building capacity in the area of geometry for both students and teachers points to the growing role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) as teaching tools in schools.
Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education Ms. Augusta Ifill made the call for educators to explore this new domain with today's crop of technology savvy students who are generally very interested in using Information and Communication Technology tools.
Ms. Ifill lamented the poor performances which have been registered at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Exams and indicated her optimism that the Project entitled “Geometry in Splendour” will awaken a new thirst for learning in students and build new enthusiasm among teachers.
Funding for this programme to the tune of US$ 20, 0000 was secured under the UNESCO Participation Programme 2010 to 2011 and forms part of UNESCO's Education Campaign. |
