Tuesday, January 18, 2011 –  The planning process towards the staging of activities to commemorate Saint Lucia’s 32nd, Anniversary of Independence is currently underway under the coordination of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The committee responsible for planning this year’s Independence activities comprises a number on Government Ministries and agencies including the Ministries of Social Transformation Youth & Sports; Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry & Fisheries, Ministry of Local Government; the Cultural Development Foundation; and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force among others.

This year’s Independence commemorations is expected to carry a theme that relates to the national rebuilding process post Hurricane Tomas and the national focus and spirit which will be required to confront the challenges ahead. The Independence Planning Committee is inviting all community organizations who have plans to undertake activities as part of Saint Lucia’s Anniversary of Independence to contact the Ministry of Social Transformation through its various Community Development Officers as well as its Head Office. The Ministry of Education & Culture can also be contacted.


The Planning Committee for the 32nd Anniversary of Independence is being chaired by Senator Hon. Gaspard Charlemagne, Minister of Culture in the Ministry of Education and Culture.
