Thursday 13 January 2011  The 18th  Nobel Laureate  Week of Activities will be officially celebrated  from the 21st to the 30th of January.

 

The  activities marking the achievements of Saint Lucia 's two Nobel  Laureates began in 1993  after  Honourable Derek Walcott   won the Nobel prize for Literature in 1992. The celebration   also embraces the island's first Nobel Laureate  Sir Arthur Lewis who won the award  for Economics in 1979.

 

The first activity will be a grand media conference and presentation, at the residence of the Governor General on the Morne  on the  28th  of January.  Other activities  planned for the week will be unveiled as well as events to mark the grand observance on  January 23rd- Nobel Laureate Day.

 

Word reaching the Government Information Service is that  Nobel Laureate Day will commence with a grand affair at the National Cultural Centre.

 

Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy,  is the Chief Organizer on  the Nobel Laureate Organizing Committee.
