Thursday 13 January 2011  In light of the national challenges experienced in 2010, Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North, Honourable Jeanine Compton  Antoine, is pleading with Saint Lucians to take heed of the urgency for unity.

God has opened our eyes through the disasters of last year, the MP says, to show us what is wrong in our country.

“Forget about our differences and focus on the greater good. The only way our country will progress is if we bring back the spirit of community, family, friendship, and most of all God. If we do this, and unite, our country will rise up like a phoenix from the ashes-greater than it was before.”

Disrespect and disregard for the value of life is spiralling out of control, the MP says, and that has threatened the basic human need for security among our people.

Honourable Compton Antoine appeals to gang members to stop perpetuating and feeding senseless feuds.

“To the gangs that plague our country—do  you understand why you fight? Willing to take the lives of brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers for petty grudges developed so long ago that maybe even you have forgotten when it started and why it started. What benefit is it for you for a few minutes of fame and a lifetime of grief. I beg you please look in the mirror, look at your children, your family, your mother, and ask yourself, do you want this for them?”

Mrs. Compton Antoine is making a plea to every individual in society not only to take responsibility for themselves, but to be their brother's keeper.

Like the tradition that maintained “it takes a village to raise a child”, the MP stresses the need for moral development and collaboration.
