Friday 28 January 2011  During the month of June, 2010, Cabinet approved the lease of lands within the district of Soufriere to Jalousie Beaches Limited. The lease was approved to facilitate the Company’s development of those lands which it is understood would contribute to enhancing the island’s tourism product. As part of the process, the company requested and was granted the option to purchase the said lands. This option was granted with the firm understanding that the company would have to submit a separate application for purchase subject to the discretion of Government and giving consideration to relevant conditions and policies.

Government has since deliberated further on this matter and has taken into account certain historical factors and convention. Government is mindful of the need to safeguard what is considered to be the patrimony of the State and as such has decided to rescind the option offered to the company to purchase Crown Lands. Cabinet maintains its approval of the offer of a ninety-nine (99) year emphyteutic lease of the said lands. Government reiterates its support to the company in light of the significant investment that Jalousie Beaches Limited has made and continues to make to the economic development of Soufriere and Saint Lucia as a whole.
