Thursday 27 January 2011 – The Arts and Crafts sector in Choiseul has regained a healthy level of momentum after suffering from limited scope for a period of time.
Member of Parliament for the community Honourable Rufus Bousquet says this revival is evidenced by the recent exposition of several genres of art, from Choiseul. The exposition at the Derek Walcott Square recently was to highlight the Choiseul community.
“Choiseul has been historically renowned as the craft capital of Saint Lucia. for a number of years though the community’s rich craft heritage had been in danger of extinction until recently when the Office of Private Sector Relations (OPSR) funded two initiatives to help revive the Choiseul craft sector to restore credibility to our heritage.”
The member of Parliament has called on the artisans in the community to immediately move with zeal to develop what he referred to as “The Choiseul Brand “ as a tag that will take the artistic output of Choiseul to a new level of marketability.
Meantime, President of the Choiseul Development Foundation Mr. John Satney says the community of Choiseul while thankful for its alliance with the Nobel Laureate Committee and other partners in highlighting Choiseul's products in the island's capital Castries.
“This is timely exposure for Choiseul since the craft organization in particular, will be involved in business promotion, and there will also be a website and video documentary.”
There are plans to continue the promotion of arts and crafts from Choiseul. |
