Monday 31 January 2011 – Plans for the celebration of Saint Lucia’s thirty-second anniversary of Independence are well on stream.
So far the Independence Planning Committee has held two preparatory meetings.
Chairperson of the committee Senator Honourable Gaspard Charlmagne says despite various challenges the activities organised will encompass the true meaning and value of independence.
“So far we have tried our best to ensure that the activities are manageable because one may well understand that after Hurricane Tomas there are a lot of things that we may not be able to do because there are other sectors, Ministries and communities have their own concerns and we want to make sure that we will give them the opportunity to participate in the various activities but what we will ensure that there is as much participation in independence 2011 at every level.”
The Independence Planning Committee will be stressing greater community participation in the Independence celebrations this year.
Senator Charlmagne says the persons will be encouraged to beautify their communities.
“We also have the usual national schools rally which is a very importance aspect of independence celebration ,we also have the Prime Minister’s reception and at his official residence and the traditional independence Parade among other activities.”
Independence 2011 will be celebrated under the theme "RECOVERING THROUGH RESILIENCE; REBUILDING WITH DETERMINATION".
