Friday 25 February 2011 – The Ministry of Social Transformation, Youth and Sports is partnering with the Commonwealth Youth Programme to evaluate the effectiveness of youth organzations throughout Saint Lucia.
A number of young persons representing the various communities met last week to examine the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) facing young people.
Director of Youth and Sports Victor Reid, says the workshop is timely given that over the past 15 years the ministry responsible for youth has had many concerns about the manner that youth and sports councils and clubs operate in Saint Lucia.
“The youth and sports councils start with a bang and two to three months later, they die. The youth and sports council s are of special interest to us because they are supposed to be the links to what happens at the community level and at the district level.”
The gathering of young people was called to be open and frank to ensure that all issues were thrashed out to ensure the success of the programme.
“I expect that coming out of this meeting you are forth coming and that we will get a body of information that will guide us, meaning government, NYC, district youth and the sports councils. “The true success and measure of what we are doing here today, will be its implementation and the results we get from its execution,” said Minister for Social Transformation, Youth and Sports, Hon. Lennard Montoute. |
