Thursday 24 February 2011 The island's prime minister Hon. Stephenson King has amplified government’s vision for education in Saint Lucia.

Prime Minister Hon. Stephenson King in  reiterating government's commitment to all levels of educational development, has made the  disclosure that—given the growing demand for tertiary education—government  will soon move  in the direction of  universal tertiary education.

“As a government, the next step we have to make in our efforts at the millennium development goals, is not about universal primary education, is not about universal secondary education but universal tertiary education. It's about the transformation of the education system, so that the avenue to higher learning does not become the domain of a few.”

The island's leader says government's intention is to create an enabling environment for every student to encounter  fewer challenges in the pursuance of degree and PHD certification.

“For persons like me who were not able to earn it, I would like to see every girl and boy obtain the opportunity to earn his or herself a university education.”

Over its 32 years of independence, Saint Lucia has been able to make significant educational strides including universal primary education, and universal secondary education.
