Wednesday, February 16, 2011 – “University education is no longer the privilege of the rich.”    This was the view expressed by Taiwan's Ambassador to Saint Lucia His Excellency Tom Chou as he announced three educational programmes for 2011, offered by his government to the government and people of Saint Lucia.

“My government is providing three scholarship programmes this year - the Taiwan Scholarship, ICDF Scholarship and Language Scholarship.  The aim of the scholarships is to cultivate a higher quality of human resource in Saint Lucia.  We offer full scholarships which cover a round trip airplane ticket to Taiwan, tuition and living cost.”

Ambassador Chou attributes the outstanding performance of Saint Lucian students in Taiwan’s learning institutions, as a reason for the yearly increase in the number of scholarships on offer.   For his part Minister for Youth and Social Development Honourable Lenard Montoute expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for his country's contribution to the human development of Saint Lucians over the past few years.

“I want to place on record  the government of Saint Lucia’s appreciation ambassador through you to your government and people for your continued support for our development and in particular for the development of our people.  It is not lost upon us, the contribution that you have made in the area of social infrastructure, in the area of sports, in the area of agriculture, in the area of ICT, and in fact I think the greatest contribution that you have made to date is the education of our young people, because this is an asset  that they will carry for life and a contribution I believe would make a mark difference in the development of our country.”

Deadline date for the submission of application forms to the Taiwanese Embassy is Friday 25th February, 2011.  For additional information visit the embassy’s web site at "http://www.taiwanembassy.org/"www.taiwanembassy.org  of the Saint Lucia government's website at "http://www.stlucia.gov.lc/"www.stlucia.gov.lc.
