Tuesday 15 February 2011  Following recent announcements regarding scheduling of works related to the St Jude Hospital Reconstruction Project, the Government of Saint Lucia is announcing the commencement of major works at the site. Initial demolition and preparatory works on the Surgical Building and on the East and West Wings began soon after the launch of the St Jude Reconstruction Project in September, 2009, while related planning and design work has been ongoing since.

The re-roofing work which signals the commencement of major works at the site will continue for the next 6 weeks and is one component of the overall portfolio of work, which comprises five (5) components.

There are currently a number of sub-contractors engaged at the site with approximately one hundred and twenty (120) persons employed from the Vieux-Fort area and the neighboring communities of Choiseul, Laborie, and Micoud.

It is anticipated that the re-roofing works, which is the focus of this current phase will be completed by the end of March, 2011. This will mark the completion of two of the five components of work related to the St Jude Hospital Reconstruction Project.

The public will be provided with periodical updates on the progress of work as relates to the overall St Jude Hospital Reconstruction Project. The entire project which in the main comprises renovation works on the original site is expected to be completed before the last quarter of 2011.
