A Message to Young People “Agents of Change” |
Contact: Shannon Lebourne
Wednesday, February 09, 2011 – A message of advice and encouragement has been sounded to the nation`s youth who are being faced with several challenges relating to crime and lawlessness in the society.
Minister responsible for the Youth Honourable Lenard “Spider” Montoute has called on the young people to view them-selves as capable of effecting positive change in the country.
Minister Montoute says such an outlook from the youth is critical at this juncture of Saint Lucia`s development. “I ask the nation`s youth to be patient and reflect before they act, the instantaneous gratification that tends to accompany the thinking of our young people is something that we must deal with as a nation, our young people must recognize that good things do not come without sacrifice, our young people must be encouraged to develop themselves.
Minister
Montoute has also issued an appeal for the private sector to partner and support
programmes for the development of the country`s young people. He says the
youth must be empowered with equal opportunities to see themselves as part and
parcel of national development. “I think what is required now is an all inclusive effort at the national level to ensure that we can tackle the problems that we face and ameliorate them to the extent that we can accommodate our young people – it’s really a matter of one helping each other and each one being its brother keeper”.
Minister Montoute has also expressed the need for a spiritual orientation to give the youth the necessary grounding to be positive and productive citizens.
He has also assured that government will continue to do what is necessary to empower the nation`s youth who are undoubtedly the future leaders. |
