Monday 5 December 2011   Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony says once his Cabinet has been sworn in, he will begin to pull all resources together towards the reconstruction of the country.

According to Dr. Anthony, the government of Saint Lucia will be establishing a special unit to manage the reconstruction process, to ensure it is done in a well-coordinated manner.

“Obviously I do not know what exists—how much work has been accomplished by the former government—and clearly I would need to get early reports on where we are on these matters.  So that’s priority number one, then jobs.

“We did make a promise to the people of Saint Lucia, that we would be investing a hundred million dollars in creating jobs in the country, and I want to move very quickly to make that a reality.”

The prime minister says government will be making heavy investments in the youth in several areas, among them, community infrastructure, training, and further education.

One of the first steps we are going to take is to introduce laptops to the school system, because we now have to answer to the new technology.  The creative industry holds tremendous potential for our young people. We want to invest heavily in that area, so our young people can make use of the talents that they have—the creative industry will receive my personal attention.
