08 December 2011 – Tackling the crime problem and revamping the island’s education system will be major priorities on the agenda of the new government.
Prime Minister Honourable Dr Kenny Anthony says, sustaining efforts at crime prevention, detection, and crime solving will be a preoccupation of his administration.
Dr Anthony says the strategy will involve increasing the capacity of the police force to execute its mandate, strengthening the justice system, and promoting a better social environment for all to live.
“We intend to take a multifaceted approach to citizen security and will see interventions at the level of the police force and criminal justice system. We will improve the capacity of the police force to prevent, detect and solve crime, we intend to increase the capacity of the state to prosecute crime and we want to inculcate in our communities a low tolerance for anti-social behaviour. “At the same time, through our human and social development programmes, we plan to address the underlying social problems that create a fertile environment for criminal activity.” The Prime Minister explained that the designation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Legal Affairs, and National Security, will allow for the required synergies in order to make the country more secure, and its citizens safer. |
