Major Works to Commence Soon Along the Barre D’Isle |

Monday, August 15, 2011 – The Ministry of Communications and Works which is the chief agency responsible for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the country`s infrastructure, is fine-tuning plans for the commencement of major works along the Barre D` Isle.
The works which will involve slope stabilisation is being funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Communications and Works Lester Arnold says experts continue to follow the necessary preparatory guidelines to ensure that the necessary works are executed in accordance with the required regulations.
“We are at a very advance stage right now, in fact we are presently going through the pre-qualification of contactors in accordance with guidelines of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and some of the packages will be issued very soon and works along the Barre D` Isle will be commencing within a couple of weeks hopefully.”
The Barre D` Isle is the main road-way connecting the north and south of the island and is critical for the transfer of hundreds of visitors to the Hewanorra International Aiport daily.
Meantime, the Chief Engineer says the Ministry of Communications and Works continues to record success in completing various rehabilitation projects around the island. “We are now completing some of the interventions which started post Hurricnae Tomas which are the culverts crossings in Morn Repos, Troumassee and Anse Gallet to name a few. The works at Anse Gallet is already complete and we are finishing up minor works at Troumassee and Morn Repos to prepare for the resurfacing of those roads, we had some issues with the utilities but these were sorted out,” Arnold explain.
The Chief Engineer says technocrats continue to follow the required guidelines as they aim to rebuild a more resilient Saint Lucia.
Although inclement weather associated with the Hurricane Season further exacerbates the magnitude of works that need to be undertaken, the Ministry of Communications and Works says it remains committed to the task at hand. |
