Friday, April 1, 2011 – Work is ongoing on the St. Jude’s reconstruction site. Last week media practitioners along with members of the St. Jude's Hospital Administration toured the site. The tour was organized to update the general public to the progress of the project. When completed, the facility, according to Government's Press Secretary Darnley Lebourne, will boast 5 major components.
“The first component deals with demolition work regarding the surgical unit. The second component involve reconstruction of the surgical building. The third component involves demolition and replacement of the roof structure for the east and western wings of the hospital. The fourth component involves renovation of the east and west wings and ancillary buildings. And the fifth component is actually a new element that is being introduced into the hospital that is the installation of support services.”
Support services will include provisions for water storage, sewage treatment, and inventory management.
Phase one of the project is expected to be completed by the last quarter of this financial year. The second component is the construction of a brand new hospital on another site. |
