Tuesday, April 19, 2011 – Saint Lucia's Under-16 Netball team has inspired an atmosphere of elation and optimism for the island's revival of excellence in sports. Once dominant in the sub-regional sports officials say Saint Lucians have not registered such a resounding victory in the sporting arena for many years now.
Prime Minister Hon. Stephenson King led the nation in showing full support for the team's future development. The prime minister says such sporting prowess must be harnessed and trained to become long-standing assets at the national level.
“I said to the permanent secretary that this is Saint Lucia's team of the future. And when I speak of the OECS team of the future, I am not speaking of the team of the future at the OECS level, I am not speaking of the Caribbean level, I am of the future netball team at the world level. “If we have to promote you as the world team of the future, if we have to say all these nice things, then we must invest in you, we must give you that encouragement, we must give you that support.” Prime Minister King has made the initial commitment that the necessary approaches will be made and resources will be allocated for an international coach to be brought to Saint Lucia in order to assist the young ladies in maximizing their potential. |
