National security ministry launches football fiesta on May 2 |
Contact: Shannon Lebourne Wednesday 27 April 2011 – In an effort to engender a greater spirit of togetherness and camaraderie among members of the protective and emergency services and to assist with easing the pressures on members of the service, the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security will host the 2011 Protective Services Football Fiesta on Monday May 2nd, at the SAB Playing Field at Vigie.
The fiesta will be held under the banner of fun, friendly rivalry, and unity.
Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security Fortuna Belrose says, such activities are very important as members of the security and protective services strive to execute their mandate to secure Saint Lucia.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security through the efforts of our minister felt it was time for us to not only be active on the ground but also for us to take care of the welfare of our people; this is why the football fiesta was conceptualised. “Its basically designed to foster greater corporation amongst the members of the Protective Services so this is an opportunity for us to socialise and bond as persons fighting for a common cause, we also want to provide an opportunity for members of the Protective Services to release some stress because we know officers are under a lot of pressure to perform.”
The 2011 Protective Services Football Fiesta will be contested by six teams representing the the Saint Lucia Fire Service, the Customs and Excise Department, the Bordelais Correctional Facility, Private Security firms, Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
The activity begins at 8:30 AM with a parade of the teams from the Castries Waterfront to the SAB playing field, with activities scheduled to commence at 10AM.
