Monday 22 November 2010 – Health authorities have announced that the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) has fully restored the regular supply of potable water to the Victoria Hospital.
Director of the Bureau of Public Health Education, Mr. Cyprian Yarde in making the announcement, says this development strengthens the hospital's ability to deliver all of its services to the general public.
“We are happy to report that the water situation or crisis has been relieved at the Victoria hospital because of the fact that the hospital has been added to the list of institutions that now has pipe-borne water. The hospital has replenished its back-up systems and is back on stream with its full operations and services as we speak.”
Meanwhile, the Saint Jude's Hospital which is operating from the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux-Fort has recently received a donation of ten one-thousand gallon water tanks to augment the hospital’s current storage capacity. Mr. Yarde says in the absence of WASCO’s regular supply, the hospital is still operating from its back-up systems.
“Once the system has been retrofitted which is what is being done, there will be an additional ten thousand gallons of water which will be added to St. Jude's capacity. We are happy to report that both of our major hospitals are up and running.”
Mr. Yarde says the Ministry of Health thanks WASCO, the many non-governmental partners and private agencies for their support in providing potable water to the hospitals.
