Friday 22 October 2010 – Tourism officials say the stage is set for an exciting 2010 Tourism Awareness Week under the global theme “Tourism and Biodiversity.”
The observance is designed to raise awareness of the importance of the industry to the economies of Saint Lucia and other Caribbean countries.
“Our figures to date show a 16% increase in visitor arrivals into the island. As we embark on Tourism Awareness Week it will not only help enhance general appreciation for tourism but it will also provide an opportunity to highlight several of the burgeoning opportunities available to young and enterprising Saint Lucians wishing to enter the industry.”
The opening ceremony for Tourism Awareness Week will take the form of a high-profile round table discussion today Monday October 25 at the NIC Conference Centre under the theme “Securing the Future of Tourism in Saint Lucia and the Caribbean.”
Public Relations Manager of the Tourist Board`s says another major highlight of the opening ceremony will be the official unveiling of a public advocacy campaign.
“That campaign is being spearheaded by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA). It has so far moved from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and now onto Saint Lucia. Essentially the campaign is a series of Public Service Announcements (PSA) which are geared to sensitizing the public on the importance of the tourism industry.”
The week of activities will be declared open by Prime Minister Stephenson King, and will culminate with the staging of the annual MISS SLHTA Pageant on Saturday October 30 at the Gaiety on Rodney Bay. |
