Tuesday, December 7, 2010 – A five-thousand dollar donation to the Marian Home for the Elderly will go a long way in ensuring the building which is now home to a number of older folk is safe, secure and comfortable. In handing over the cheque on Tuesday, Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Tom Chou outlined the reasons for the donation.
“The reason why the Embassy agreed to assist the Marian Home is because we believe that senior people make a sterling contribution to their country and families in their youth. The society needs to reciprocate and treat them in the best possible manner.”
Saint Lucians have been told to remember the tremendous contributions the elderly made to the society in diverse sectors, now being enjoyed by the youth. Minister for Health, Wellness. Family Affairs, National Mobilisation, Hon. Dr. Keith Mondesir thanked the government and people of the Republic of China on Taiwan, for their support not just in agriculture but in all sectors of the Saint Lucian economy.
“Too many times we have forgotten the elderly and too many times we have forgotten that they are the ones who set the foundation that we now take for granted.”
Dr. Mondesir announced that government will soon have a home for the elderly in the south of the island. The home to be located in Black Bay, will boast of a number of amenities designed to keep the residents active.
