Tuesday 30 November 2010 Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King took the opportunity within his recent address to the nation on Government’s response to Hurricane Tomas, to officially recognize the contributions of civil servants and members of the public in the rebuilding effort of the country.

“We have seen the dedication and commitment displayed by the employees and various crews from the ministry of communication, works, transport and public utilities and other persons involved in the clean up effort. Some of them have worked 24 hours in a day with hardly any sleep and yet return on the following day to contribute to the effort.

“The stories of persons helping each other in often treacherous circumstances, the acts of bravery in lending support and helping each other, the numerous volunteers from all over the country who have come forward.

“I wish to take the opportunity now to publicly thank all those workers, all those volunteers, with NEMO, Red Cross, the public and private sectors, churches, community, organizations and utility workers without whose efforts the situation would be considerably worse. The Government of Saint Lucia salutes all of you for putting country before self.

In assuring citizens of government’s commitment to remember those who lost their lives during the hurricane, he urged the populace to emulate the example of all those who have assisted their neighbours in distress and  in the reconstruction of the country.
